Once Upon A Rhyme

Anyways. I'm going to be a whiny spoilt brat today and complain some more.

Today, on my way home from school, I was standing in the bus (which really seemed like a sardine can,) and I realised something. All those people standing in the bus and allowing others to sit as well as actively moving in so that more people can board the bus are all school-going pupils like us. Meanwhile, the old people, AKA adults, are just blatantly standing there in the middle of the narrow passageway, just because they want to hold on to the bar.

Obviously, none of them bothered to consider the trifling fact that the schoolchildren with 4 to 8kg bags might be... slightly inconvenienced? After all, I'm sure most people who have to take public transport home will agree that it is rather difficult to hold on to a swinging handgrip in a jerking bus, while being weighed down by a fat bag, while trying to push past people who choose to just lump themselves in the narrow passageway with their posteriors sticking out, who are pretending not to notice the people around them, just because its more inconvenient to hold on to nothing, or just a swaying handrail, compared to the florescent orange pole they're clutching in their grubby paws.

Honestly, I'm disappointed.
According to Wikipedia, "The National Courtesy Campaign was a campaign launched in June 1979 by Singapore's Ministry of Culture as a means of encouraging Singaporeans to be more kind and considerate to each other, so as to create a pleasant social environment. It was to be an annual effort by the government to encourage the people to adopt a more courteous attitude and lifestyle. It was seen as a means of ensuring a smooth transition to a new Singapore which would be densely populated, where people lived and worked in high rise towns, offices and factories, while traveling in crowded buses and lifts."

However, how often have you seen others, especially working adults, give up their seats to others on the bus or the MRT? Singaporeans really have to think of others more often.
(Okays. I'm gonna be really idiotic now so be prepared and don't roll your eyes.)

In my opinion, people like that are such good examples of courtesy that I feel that myself, as well as others, should learn from their fine and morally upstanding example, no? Emulating their example, here's what we should do when we grow up. This is what one ought to do as a tribute to their fine example:

1. Tap my card five seconds after I get on the bus. Never mind the person standing there. Just push roughly past his or her shoulder. After all, my card is more important. Also, there's no need to say "Excuse me." After all, the person standing there isn't important. -looks through him/her-

2. Sit on one seat, with whatever plastic bags or my schoolbag slung over the other seat. My stuff is waaay more important than someone else! Where else can I put my vegetables or my bag of groceries? You can't expect me to put it on my lap of course!

3. Sit on the outer seat with my legs firmly poking out and affixed in that position. After all, there's nobody I know in this bus, so nobody's going to sit there anyway. *Ignores the person holding a large bunch of books, plastic bags, ect, who is doing her best to cling onto a shaky handgrip while swaying precariously every time the bus brakes.*

Whoever this offends, think about why this might offend you. Then, look at yourself and others the next time you ride public transport and try to prove that what I've just exaggerated does not happen at all.
